What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a method of treating unsightly spider veins and varicose veins using a liquid or foam called a sclerosant. The sclerosant causes your problem veins to collapse, closing them off and preventing blood from taking that path.
The blood that would have flowed down the treated vein takes a different route, and the vein gradually disappears over time.
You have so many blood vessels in your legs that closing down a few doesn’t affect your circulation — in fact, it improves because the blood is no longer pooling in the varicose veins.
Dr. Resetarits and his team use an advanced sclerosant called Asclera, which contains polidocanol.

Why is sclerotherapy a good choice for treating unsightly veins?
Sclerotherapy is an excellent choice for treating spider veins and varicose veins because it’s cost-effective, works well, and causes minimal discomfort.
Treated veins can’t come back after sclerotherapy. That means you benefit from having healthy legs and better circulation long-term following your treatment.
New varicose and spider veins may form in the future, but you can see Dr. Resetarits for touch-up sessions if necessary.
What happens when I have sclerotherapy?
Your Asclera sclerotherapy treatment takes place in the Surgical Care East, PLLC office, with a session taking 30 minutes or less.
You don’t need sedation for the procedure, but you can have a local anesthetic cream at the injection site to numb your skin. Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment, delivered using fine needles that don’t leave scars.
Dr. Resetarits injects the sclerosant solution into the target vein, using sophisticated imaging technology to guide the needle’s placement. The Asclera solution collapses the walls of the vein, which your body then absorbs over time.
How do I care for my legs following sclerotherapy?
After your sclerotherapy session, Dr. Resetarits gives you specific aftercare instructions to optimize your results. He typically recommends that patients wear compression stockings for a while to support the veins, and you should avoid strenuous activities for a few days.
If your legs feel sore, over-the-counter pain medications should take care of any discomfort. You might get some mild bruising, but that should fade in a week or so. Other than that, you can carry on with life as usual.
Many people find one session sufficient to deal with their problem veins, but additional treatments might achieve optimal results for others.
